What This Calculator Does
The Temperature Converter converts between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin in either direction. Cooking, weather, and science all use different scales, and this tool removes the mental arithmetic.
How It Works
Every scale normalizes to Celsius internally. Fahrenheit converts as (F - 32) x 5/9 and Kelvin as K - 273.15, then the target scale is applied in reverse.
Example
Convert 100°F to Celsius: (100 - 32) x 5/9 = 37.8°C. The same temperature is 310.9 K.
Formula
°C = (°F − 32) × 5/9°F = °C × 9/5 + 32K = °C + 273.15Reading the Results
Converted Temperature
The input temperature expressed in the target scale, converted through a Celsius normalization.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply by 9/5 and add 32: C x 9/5 + 32. The converter does this automatically in either direction.
At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?
At -40 degrees, both scales read -40. It is the one point where the two agree.
Why does Kelvin have no negative numbers?
Kelvin is an absolute scale starting at absolute zero, the coldest physically possible temperature, so values are never negative.
