What This Calculator Does
The Price per Unit Calculator compares up to three product packages using the same normalized unit price. Enter package prices, quantities, and compatible units to see which option costs less for the same amount.
How It Works
Each quantity is converted to a common base unit within its unit family, then the package price is divided by that base quantity. Weight is displayed per 100 grams, volume per 100 millilitres, and counts per item.
Example
A 500 g package priced at 4.00 costs 0.80 per 100 g. A 750 g package at 5.25 costs 0.70 per 100 g, so the larger package is cheaper per 100 g.
Formula
Package price / package quantity in the common base unitPrice per base unit × 100Reading the Results
Normalized Unit Price
The package cost expressed in a common unit, making different sizes easier to compare.
Best Value
The product with the lowest normalized cost among the packages entered.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I compare different package sizes?
Divide each package price by its quantity after converting quantities to the same unit, then compare the normalized results.
Can I compare grams with ounces?
Yes. Both are weight units and are converted to grams before comparison. The result is displayed per 100 g.
Can I compare litres with kilograms?
Not with this tool. Weight and volume are different dimensions; comparing them requires a product-specific density.
Does the result include promotions?
Enter the effective package price after any promotion. Multi-buy deals and coupons are not modeled automatically.
