What This Calculator Does
The Lean Body Mass Calculator estimates the portion of your body weight that is not fat, using the Boer formula. LBM includes muscle, bone, organs, and water. Higher LBM relative to total weight indicates a more muscular or less fatty body composition.
How It Works
Men: LBM = 0.407 x weight(kg) + 0.267 x height(cm) - 19.2. Women: LBM = 0.252 x weight(kg) + 0.473 x height(cm) - 48.3. Fat mass is total weight minus LBM.
Example
A 70 kg, 175 cm male has an estimated LBM of 55.6 kg, meaning about 14.4 kg is fat mass.
Formula
LBM = 0.407W + 0.267H - 19.2 (male)Reading the Results
Lean Body Mass
The estimated weight of everything in your body that is not fat, in kilograms.
Body Fat Mass
The estimated fat portion of your body weight.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is the Boer formula?
It provides a reasonable estimate within a few percentage points for most adults. DEXA scans are more precise but less accessible.
Why does lean body matter more than total weight?
Two people at the same weight can have very different health profiles. Higher LBM means more muscle and a higher metabolic rate.
Can I increase my lean body mass?
Yes. Resistance training combined with adequate protein intake (1.6-2.2 g/kg) is the most effective way to build lean mass.
