What This Calculator Does
Estimate a gold-backed loan scenario from the net gold weight, purity, a price per gram you supply, a loan-to-value percentage, APR, and term. The estimate is not an appraisal, lender eligibility decision, or market quote.
How It Works
Fine-gold equivalent is net gold weight multiplied by carat purity divided by 24. The entered price per gram estimates collateral value; the selected loan-to-value percentage applies a hypothetical cap. A fixed-rate monthly payment estimate is then calculated from the hypothetical loan amount.
Example
If 20 grams of net gold is entered at 22 carat, the fine-gold equivalent is about 18.33 grams. At an entered price of $80 per gram, the estimated value is about $1,466.67; a user-entered 75% LTV gives a scenario loan amount of about $1,100.
Formula
Net gold weight × purity in carats / 24Fine-gold equivalent × user-entered gold price per gramEstimated collateral value × user-entered loan-to-value percentageM = P × r / (1 − (1 + r)^−n)At 0% APR, M = P / n; lender repayment methods may differ.

Fine-Gold Equivalent
Purity-adjusted weight based only on the carat value entered; it is not a jewelry assay.
Estimated Maximum Loan
A scenario amount from the entered gold price and LTV; lender valuation rules and caps may produce a different result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this use a live gold price?
No. Enter a price per gram yourself. The calculator does not fetch a market quote or guarantee that a lender will use that price.
Does the estimate confirm loan eligibility?
No. It does not appraise jewelry or check lender rules, identity, documentation, location, or eligibility. Only a lender can assess an application.
Why does purity affect the estimate?
The simple model scales net weight by carat purity relative to 24 carat. Lenders may test purity differently and exclude stones, fittings, or other material.
Are LTV limits and repayment methods universal?
No. Lender policies, fees, rates, local rules, and repayment structures vary. Use the LTV and APR only as scenario assumptions and confirm current terms with a regulated lender.
